To defend a low linear obstacle, a unit must move its front rank into base contact with it. Are Skirmishers able to do this, or does their lack of ranks prevent it?

Skirmishers can defend a low linear obstacle. To do so, simply move as many Skirmishers as possible into base contact with the feature.
