For the most part, a Battle March matched play event can be run just like any other. Obviously, the Roles & Responsibilities, as laid out in the Matched Play Guide, remain the same, as do the Universal Rules and the details of Scoring & Tiebreakers. There are, however, a few things for anyone organising a Battle March matched play event to consider. The following pages aim to address any uncertainties, whilst offering some additional ideas to consider.
Army Composition
Whilst matched play events often include restrictions upon muster lists, the general principles for Warhammer: the Old World - Battle March already include a number of such limitations, making further restrictions unnecessary.
Magic Items & Runes
Should you wish, the amount of points models can spend on magic items or runes can be reduced at a matched play event. For example, a 20% reduction would mean a model normally able to spend 50 points on magic items would be limited to just 40 points.
The Field of Battle
Battlefields and terrain placement for games of Battle March. However, whilst in most games it is recommended that the players should avoid any terrain that measures more than 12" at its widest point, the organiser of a matched play event should consider reducing this limit to 8".
Scenarios & Secondary Objectives
Anyone organising a Battle March matched play event has a choice to make when it comes to scenarios. Whilst the standard Battle March objectives and deployment maps presented previously are ideal, so too are the narrative scenarios included in this supplement.
Organisers can also add secondary objectives to their scenarios. As well as the secondary objectives fromteh following sections, and introduce a range of Secret objectives, similar to those found in the Matched Play Guide, but designed especially for Battle March.
Choosing Scenarios & Deployment Maps: As usual at a matched play event, at the start of each round the organiser must determine which scenario will be played and which objectives and/or secondary objectives will be in use. Whilst many organisers will simply choose deployment maps and objectives, or scenarios, ahead of each round, choosing at random from amongst those that have not yet been played at the beginning of each round is also highly recommended.
Once a deployment map or scenario has been played, it cannot be played again unless all of the other deployment maps or scenarios have also already been played (in events that have more than six rounds, for example, in which case, the process begins again. By removing scenarios that have already been played from the selection, players are assured to experience a variety of different battles across the event.
