Whilst the goal of the majority of conflicts is to see the enemy routed from the field and to secure locations of logistical and tactical importance, there are often other angles being worked by agents on both sides. Be it the acquisition of a particular resource, the elimination of an experienced enemy commander or striking out at the enemy's own supply chain, there are many reasons for the vanguard of a campaigning army to meet their foe in battle.
