The Winds of Magic rules are not compulsory, meaning that players are not obliged to use them in their games of Warhammer: the Old World. However, these rules have been created to add depth and it is highly recommended that players try them, discovering which they enjoy the most and making them a regular part of their games.

Before a game begins, the players may agree which of the rules that follow they will use. It is recommended that players use either the rules for Channelling or the rules for Arcane Magic. Sorcerous Ruses, can be used in conjunction with Channelling or Arcane Magic, or they can be used alone. Whichever rules are used, the pages that follow include guidance on when dice are rolled or when cards are drawn, and by which player.

Matched Play: If you are organising a Warhammer: the Old World matched play event, you may wish to include rules for the Winds of Magic. It is recommended that such events allow the use of either Channelling, or Arcane Magic, but not both. Sorcerous Ruses can be used in conjunction with either, or alone. Whatever the case, the inclusion of these rules should be conveyed to attendees as early as possible, giving them ample opportunity to prepare.
