The Empire garrison stationed in the town of Oostwold were caught off guard by the early arrival of the Chainmaker's forces. Ill-equipped to hold off more than scouting parties and patrols, the captain in command of the garrison prepared his warriors for a glorious stand in an effort to delay the servants of the Ruinous Powers on their journey south. Fortunately, Miao Ying had wasted little time in Marienburg and marched her army swiftly northwards to bolster Empress Magritta's forces. Help was close at hand, but would the army of Grand Cathay arrive in time to do more than bury the dead?

First Battle
Whilst this scenario is the first of three linked battles, it can be played as a standalone scenario.
Army Selection
If playing this game as the first of three linked battles, the players should consider how the rewards for winning or losing will affect their armies going forwards in the next two scenarios.
Though players are not required to keep the same army for each game, as the forces commanded by the Storm Dragon and the Chainmaker are vast and able to sustain through the attrition of war, players may wish to keep the core of their armies similar for each game. Doing so helps weave the narrative of the campaign.
The Attacker
The attacker should write a single 2,500 points muster list using either the Warriors of Chaos Grand Army composition list or the Wolves of the Sea Army of Infamy composition list.
The Defender
The defender should write two muster lists, one representing the Empire garrison, the other representing the relief force made up of soldiers from Grand Cathay.
The Garrison: The defender should write a 1,000 point muster list using the Empire of Man Grand Army composition list from Forces of Fantasy. The general of this force must be a Captain of the Empire.
The Relief Force: The defender should write a 1,500 point muster list using the Jade Fleet Army of Infamy composition list.
Alternatively, this scenario may be played with any two armies of the players' choosing.
Set-up
This battle takes place at an Empire encampment on the outskirts of the town of Oostwold in the Wasteland. The battlefield can be set up as shown opposite, or by using the Wasteland terrain generator. The defender's deployment zone A should have some battlefield decoration representing the tents and rough defensive measures of the Empire encampment.
Deployment
The defender deploys the Garrison anywhere within the defender's deployment zone A, as shown on the map below. The attacker then deploys their entire army anywhere within the attacker's deployment zone, as shown on the map below. The defender then deploys the relief force anywhere within defender's deployment zone B.

First Turn
In this scenario, the attacker will automatically take the first turn.
Game Length
The battle will last for six rounds or until one side concedes.
