The Battle of Fort Nordenschloss
URL Copied!

Having sacked the port of Emskrank, the armoured legions of Chaos advanced swiftly eastwards towards Nordenschloss, the fortified coastal garrison overlooking the town of Norden, whilst bellowing herds of Basten rushed through the Drakwald to join the Warriors of Chaos. Within the fort, Osterlund's State Troops did not sit idle, instead swiftly raising lines of defences that they hoped would slow the enemy advance and that the town itself could mount a proper defence. Unknown to the Osterlunders, reinforcements approached, for Miao Ying and her vanguard raced from the south-west to meet the armoured might of the Lords of Chaos.

Historical Recreation

The battle of Fort Nordenschloss was fought between the Hordes of Chaos, united under the command of a fell Chaos Sorcerer, and the combined forces of Nordenschloss' garrison and Miao Ying's vanguard. To represent this, the players should write three muster lists one for the attacker and two for the defender) as follows:

The Attacker

The attacker should write a single 3,000 points muster list using the Hordes of Chaos Army of Infamy composition list. The General of this army must be a Chaos Sorcerer, mounted on a Chaos Dragon.

The Defender

The defender should write two muster lists, one representing their main force, the other representing the rescue force:

Main Force: The defender should write a 2,000 points muster list using the Empire of Man Grand Army Composition List.

Rescue Force: The defender's rescue force consists of Miao Ying and three Sky Lanterns.

Alternatively, this scenario may be played with any two armies of the players choosing, in which case the defender must spend between 25% and 33% of their army's points value on an allied contingent to act as the rescue force.

Set-up

Place terrain as described. In addition, place a watchtower measuring no more than 8" at its widest point within the defender's deployment zone A, as shown on the map opposite, surrounded by lines of staked defences:

Staked Defences: Staked defences count as a low linear obstacle. However, unless it has the Fly (X) special rule, any unit that charges an enemy behind staked defences makes a disordered charge and becomes Disrupted. In addition, any model whose troop type is cavalry or chariot must make a Peril test (as if it had fled through an enemy unit) if it ends its charge move in base contact with staked defences.

Deployment

The defender deploys their main force within the defender's deployment zone A, as shown on the map below. Once complete, the attacker deploys their entire army within attacker's deployment zone A.

First Turn

In this scenario, the attacker will automatically take the first turn.

Game Length

The battle will last for six rounds or until one side concedes.

Scenario Special Rules

Reinforcements: The defender's rescue force gains the Ambushers special rule. However, from the beginning of round two onwards, the defender rolls a single D6 for their entire rescue force during each of their Start of Turn sub-phases (rather than rolling a D6 for each individual unit). Upon its arrival, the entire rescue force enters the battle as reinforcements from any board edge within defender's deployment zone B. Any units belonging to the rescue force that cannot be placed on the battlefield during the turn it arrives may be left in reserve and can be brought on as described above during the following turn.

Any Ambushers belonging to the attacker that were held in reserve will arrive as normal. However, any Warriors of Chaos units held in reserve, including Cult Magisters and Chaos Cultists, must enter the battle as reinforcements from any board edge within the attacker's deployment zone A. By contrast, and to represent their emergence from the Forest of Shadows to the south, any Beastmen Brayherds units held in reserve must enter the battle as reinforcements from any board edge within attacker's deployment zone B.

Once the battle has ended, use Victory Points to determine which player is the winner.
